Bare Metal Recovery from legacy mode system to UEFI system
Dear all,
I use the Veeam Agent for Windows (version 2.0) on my client .
System is a Dell Precision M 4700 running in legacy mode.
OS – W10
I got a brand-new Dell Precision7530.
The new system is not able to run the internal drives in legacy mode but UEFI.
I wanted to make a “Bare Metal Recovery” from the “old“ Dell Precision M 4700 running in legacy mode to the “new” system Dell Precision7530 running in UEFI mode which failed.
The new system is not able to boot the restored system.
It has to with MBR format (of the old system running in legacy mode) and the GBT format of the “new” system running in legacy mode).
Is there a manual / guideline how to deal with this scenario?
Best regards,
Peter

Re: Bare Metal Recovery from legacy mode system to UEFI system
Hello Peter,
Can you please clarify if it's possible to switch newly restored machine to legacy mode by adjusting BIOS properties? Thanks!

Peter,
You can convert MBR partition to GPT partition while booted in Veeam Recovery Media. If that sounds too complex please reach our support team and they will assist you with entire process. Cheers!

I had the same issue and was able to fix it using MBR2GPT - accessible through cmd prompt:
Boot to the VEEAM recovery media, open the tools section and then a cmd window:
Use "diskpart" and then "list disk" to find the disk containing the system partition, then:
> mbr2gpt \validate \disk:x ("x" being your target disk)
> mbr2gpt \convert \disk:x
