Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
Trying to do a bare metal recoveryfrom an SATA drive that is connected via a USB SATA disc dock. When I boot up on the recovery media and select the Bare Metal recovery option, its not finding/loading the external SATA drive that I have connected locally via USB. I have tried to include the C:\windows\system32\drivers directory on the recovery media as well.

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
Hi ryanmHWE,
You may need to install USB/eSATA driver into Recovery Media. Boot the Recovery Media, go to Tools > Load Driver, find the needed device in the list and click ‘Install’. If no drivers were collected during recovery media creation you still have an option to upload them manually.

Can the backup media be on separate hardware from the Recovery media?

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
Do you know a model or vendor for this device?generic driver for a usb SATA dock device
Sure. Recovery media and backup repository can be stored on different media. VEB supports local/removable drives, shared folders and Veeam B&R repository as a backup repository. Recovery Media can be stored on optical media, USB devices or in .iso file. Can the backup media be on separate hardware from the Recovery media?

Hi ryanmHWE,
Can’t find any drivers. You might need only USB drivers to be installed the way I suggested before.

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
It doesn't work. I even included the entire C:\windows\system32\drivers directory within the Recovery media. The Serial ATA controller says its "ONLINE" within the Veeam Endpoint Backup software, the sata drive never gets loaded or is seen properly to point the Veeam Endpoint backup software the backup media location.

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
To clarify, you:
- Booted the recovery media
- Installed the USB driver via Load Driver utility
- When browsing backup location (thru the Bare Metal Restore browse for backup), you do not see the disk being mounted
Right?

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
Can you go to Load Drivers, click 'Show unknown devices' and check the list for any storage adapters or USB devices?

Re: Baremetal restore from external USB SATA disc
I believe the problem is a windows 7 issues with USB devices. The actual device shows up in "devices and printers" as a "usb to ATA/ATAPI bridge". Any reccomendations?

Hm. Google shows this driver on a first place - try to load it into recovery media and see if that works.

Just a quick and dirty suggestion, are you plugging into a usb3 port? try a different port that may be on a different controller.
