Best Way To Monitor Endpoint Backups

Post by Shall1569 »

Hi All!

Hoping to get some solutions for this, and will include as much detail as I can. So the below is currently how things are configured

- Endpoint backup installed on PC's and Laptops
- all backing up to a Veeam server over the WAN (Using OpenVPN to keep the connection constant)

Now for the questions!

- Is there a solution out there for being able to manage the Endpoint clients remotely from the Veeam server. Will is be free/Not free? Does a Solution Exist!
- Multiple backups are failing due to Bandwidth, but its hard to prove from the individual log files stored on the Veeam Server. Again is there a solution for this? Being able to see clear reasons for backup failures!
- Email notifications dont always come through. Could this be due to retrys?

Hoping someone can help or even advise!

Thanks
Sam

Hello and welcome Sam,
Is there a solution out there for being able to manage the Endpoint clients remotely from the Veeam server. Will is be free/Not free? Does a Solution Exist!
VEB plugin for LabTech is the only solution at the moment that can centrally manage VEB clients.
Multiple backups are failing due to Bandwidth, but its hard to prove from the individual log files stored on the Veeam Server. Again is there a solution for this? Being able to see clear reasons for backup failures!
You can use email notifications for reporting. Its available both at VEB and at VBR side (global email notifications).
Email notifications dont always come through. Could this be due to retrys?
Should not be the reason. However, keep in mind that email report is sent only once when retry kicks in and then at the end of the job (on success or fail). Open a case to investigate the actual reason of this failure – I bet our support team can help you.

Thankyou for this! The VEB Plugin, Is this free at all?
With the VEB plugin, does this also give you control over the email notifications at all?

Thankyou for your help!

Sam,

Veeam Endpoint Backup for LabTech license is required for each managed computer. Detailed User Guide can be found here.

If you need a free solution, then you can try to write a script that would monitor Windows event log on each protected computer and will send an alarm/email once it detects a failure in Veeam Endpoint Backup Windows event log.
