Can not create USB recovery media
Hi,
I'm using the latest release of VEB (1.0.0.1921) on Windows 8.1
When I'm trying to create a recovery media directly onto a USB stick, I receive the following error:
"Preparing USB disk Erro: Failed to change disk layout. " right after the successfull "Unmounting recovery image".
Creating a solely iso file is working without any problem ...
I tried with two completly different USB sticks, none of them is working ...

Hello dreamfish,
Please, download the GA version and try to reproduce your issue. If the issue still persists – open a support case directly from Veeam Endpoint Control Panel > Support. Thanks

Hi,
thanks for the hint.
It is also not working with the new final release version, so I open up a case.

rreed,
If you see the same behavior on latest version of the product - please open a support case and post case ID to this thread. Thanks.

Re: Can not create USB recovery media
Hi Dima, mine might have been a Group Policy issue that was denying CD-ROM and USB drive access. I didn't have time to get a ticket going, etc. so just grabbed a blank CD when it threw a much clearer "access denied." Our Service Desk confirmed I wasn't in the group to allow CD/USB access. Once fixed I was able to continue burning to CD; I forewent the USB media since I had misplaced it anyways at that point (that worked and got my restore going). Many thanks though.

Re: Can not create USB recovery media
Glad you nailed it. I should always keep in mind the GPO: it can block the devices, prevent the recovery media components from being collected and so. Good one – thanks!

Re: Can not create USB recovery media
Hi,
Also remember to un-install the "Device Access Manager for HP ProtectTools by Hewlett-Packard" on certain HP notebooks as this will disable formatting the USB drive in the wizard. You can check this by logging on as a admin, start file explorer and perform a right click on the USB drive selecting "Format..." from the popup menu. You will get an error when the Device Access Manager is running and blocking access. After uninstalling DAM the format dialog will appear and the "Create Veeam Recovery Media" program can complete without errors.
Greetz,
Johan

Re: Can not create USB recovery media
Thanks Johan.
Moreover, quick googling shows that HP Protect Tools can prevent your operating system from being upgraded, so at some point complete uninstall of these tools might help. Of course, if you are not sure – better to consult with HP support.
