Can't restore a volume to a different server
I have hourly backups running on a production server 24/7 (PRODA). I have an identical server (PRODB) that I want to restore a volume to for testing and getting some timings. The NAS that I backup to is working fine and has the relevant access rights. Restoring individual files works to the spare server, but with millions of files will be too slow to use in an emergency situation, so volume restore is the only feasible option.
I import the backup to the identical server, and try and restore a 5TB volume from it, it gets past the "Updating disk partition structure", then I get this error
24/02/2022 11:39:33 Error Restore failed: Access is denied.
Failed to open storage for read access. Storage: [Backup to NASxxxx - PRODA.xxxx.co.ukD2022-02-24T110025_6721.vib].
Agent failed to process method {Stg.OpenRead}.
05299553
It suggests access rights but I can restore individual files/folders fine. Any ideas what this could be?

Re: Can't restore a volume to a different server
Hello,
Best regards,
Hannes
PS: logfiles are missing and support can only help if you upload logs https://www.veeam.com/kb1832
could you explain a bit more what this import step is? for restore, clicking the "restore" button is good enough. import is not needed.I import the backup to the identical server
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: Can't restore a volume to a different server
Hi Hannes,
The import part is related to having the software installed on both servers, only server A knows about the backup it has created to the NAS, on server B I import the backup and tried the restore.
I will get the logs over shortly.
TIA.

Hello,
I'm talking about this disk restore: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110
Best regards,
Hannes
that sounds strange to me... VMs don't even know that they are backed up... are you using Veeam Backup & Replication VM-based backup from VMware / Hyper-V, or are you using standalone Windows agents?only server A knows about the backup it has created to the NAS, on server B I import the backup

Re: Can't restore a volume to a different server
Hi Hannes,
Both PRODA and PRODB are physical servers not VMs or running any hypervisor, and like I say they both have the full software installed not just agents. The backup job is managed from the GUI on the server itself, so in effect they are completely stand alone. The scenario is if PRODA dies I need to be able to restore it's data to another server, in this case PRODB, which is an identical server.
Regards.

Re: Can't restore a volume to a different server
hmm okay... I moved your question to the Veeam Agent for Windows forum. No further ideas from my side and I recommend to continue working with support.
