Change Job Settings: "Keep backups for xx days"

Post by Hariseldon1 »

If I change an existing backup job (with a large existing backup chain of files) such that the original backup job setting "Keep backups for = 28 days" --> is changed to "keep backups for = 7 days"

will the next run of the backup job (with the new settings) modify/truncate/cleanup/consolidate/etc the huge existing backup chain to a smaller backup chain?

Thanks!

Yes, the next run will enforce the new retention setting and remove the old restore Points.

If you have forever incremental mode, they will cleaned up immediately after the next run.

If you have Forward Incremental Mode, it‘s possible that you will have between 7-14 restore points on disk with „keep backups for = 7 days“.
