Clearing Tranaction logs Exchange 2010
I did a test on a small edb file, although it says it truncated the transaction log files, the same 75 log files are still in the log file folder after completing the backup.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,
Can you confirm that application aware processing and log truncation is enabled in job settings? Thanks.

Yes. Following is set:
Backup Mode: Volume Level Backup
Volumes: H: where this particular EDB resides
Local Storage: Y:\Veeambackup
Guest Processing: Enable Application-aware Processing is checked
General tab: Process transaction logs with this job (Recommended) is checked
I can provide screen snips if needed.
Thanks
Jim

Thanks Jim. May I ask you to open a support case from agent machine in the question and share the case ID. We need access to application debug logs to identify the root cause.

Dima, sure but I don't know what your request means.
Do I have to call Tech support? If so, what number should I call?
Thanks
Jim

Hi Jim,
No need to make a call. Go to the UI of the VAW agent and choose the tab support. Then choose Technical support.
More information can be found here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=20
Cheers
Mike

Jim,
It looks like one of the volumes with exchange databases is not included in the backup as a source. In order to truncate the logs all exchange databases (or it’s volumes) should be included in the backup.

Dima, it can't be expected to have to do backup of every .edb file every time you run a backup in order for log files to be truncated.
The backup product should be smart enough to only truncate the logs for the specific edb backup you run.
Thanks
Jim

Re: Clearing Tranaction logs Exchange 2010
Jim,
Unfortunately that is not our limitation or requirement. In case of Exchange VAW/VEB does not perform log truncation itself - it triggers the procedure on Exchange end.

Re: Clearing Tranaction logs Exchange 2010
Dima, other backup products that I have used do not require a complete backup of all edb files in order for Transaction logs to be cleared on a single edb so that seems like a strange response.
Thanks
Jim
