Eject removal storage option does not work

Hi Guys,

I am using veeam agent for windows (free version) and enabled option Eject Removable storage once backup is complete. But in my case i am using SD card(SD inserted in laptop slot). This particular option doesn't work for me.

After backup completion, i can still see SD card and can brows it. Technically it should eject and should not be visible in Windows Explorer. Any thoughts on it?

Hi Govi,

Have you tried to initiate ejection manually, when the job failed to do that?
Also, important to know that this feature will work only if the event is triggered: When backup target is connected.

If the backup job was started by any other event or manually, it won't eject a removable storage. Thanks!

Hi DGrinev,

Yes, I tried to eject drive Manually and it works as expected.

for some reason its not triggering the event. Backup completes as expected but removal drive doesn't eject

No other event configured.

Hi Govi,

Do you have the "When backup target is connected" option" chosen? Has your backup completed successfully using that specific trigger?

The eject operation will be performed only if you triggered the backup by connecting the device, the backup completed, and if there are no other applications/software (for example, antivirus, etc.) performing operations with the target device. When it was impossible to eject the device because it's busy we'll write an event into the Agent service log, located here: "%Programdata%\veeam\endpoint\Svc.VeeamEndpointBackup.log", so you may want to check this out.

Do i need to look for specific line or statement in log which has that successfully ejected removal drive.

Yes, there should be lines representing eject attempts. You can reach out to our support team and check with them if assistance is required.

Thanks for the reply. I don't see anything related to Eject Attempts in logs.

Govi,

Wanted to ask if this device is mounted permanently to the OS or is treated by OS as removable media? Can you please in device manager and disk manager and, if possible, share some screenshots? Thank you in advance!

Hi Dima,

This is treated as OS removable device, I can right click on task bar and eject is safely. Device Manager it shows as removal drive.

Sorry, I don't see any option where i can share screenshot.

Anyways, i will open support case and share the support ID.

Hi Dima,

I have created support ticket and below is the support ticket number. Today, after long time i got warning notification saying that "Removable storage cannot be ejected"

Case # 03501065 - Issue in Ejecting Removal drive

Have you already uploaded the logs in the case? I do not see them attached. It's important to do that asap because otherwise there is no data to analyze.

Hi Govi,
I am having the same issue you had , and there is no eject failure error in the following log file:
%Programdata%\veeam\endpoint\Svc.VeeamEndpointBackup.log

Antivirus protection stopped and the task running automatically
support case number : # 03978525
any reply or help would be highly appreciated
