End restore from Repository
We still have a couple of physical (yuck!) servers that I need to backup. Been using VEB to back them up to our repository. Done some test restores and everything is working lovely.
However, I now want them available in our our DR site - No problem, backup copy job sends the endpoint backups over to the DR site repository.
Test restore from the DR site has found a flaw though. VEB only wants to restore from the ON site repository, not the DR repository.
I tried telling VEB that the repo was just a SMB network share - that didn't work either.
Any ideas?

Re: End restore from Repository
Hi Jeff,
In order to restore from VEB backup that was transferred offsite by backup copy job you need to:
- Use a VBR repository as a source (Shared folder destination won’t work)
- Use VBR’s admin credentials while connecting to the offsite repository and selecting the backup copy file

Re: End restore from Repository
Yup - Doesn't work.
If you put the repository name as the source, it doesn't connect.

Re: End restore from Repository
Do you have a stable connection to DR site? Check the firewall, some ports should be opened in order to establish a connection - Backup repository part
Re: End restore from Repository
There's no issue with connectivity.
End point will happily restore over the link to the onsite backup server - It's obviously, a very slow process but works.
If I choose to restore anything from VBR to the DR site, it uses the DR repository (as we backup copy all veeam jobs to the DR site).
VEB doesn't want to use the DR repository, only the onsite one.

Re: End restore from Repository
Jeff,
Can you pick the DR repository while performing a recovery? If not, you might need to enable access for Endpoints to the said repository. Try 'allow all' and see if that works.

Re: End restore from Repository
Can't select the DR repository and access is already enabled.

Re: End restore from Repository
Thanks. I guess it’s time to ask for a help from our support guys, so please open a case and let them check your VEB debug logs. Please do not forget to include the case ID to this thread.

Just to follow up, this was down to user error!
I'm about to educate the team on "how to name backup jobs to make things easier in DR"
