Endpoint, B&R repository, tape

Post by dib »

Hi

We run Endpoint on several servers and backup to B&R repository. From B&R we then backup to tape, we have a daily and weekend media pool. Daily for incremental backup files and Weekend for full backup files.

After upgrading to Endpoint 1.5.0.306 on some of our servers, it look like there is created a new full (VBK) file every day and a incremental vib file, but my daily tape job are waiting for tapes from the weekend media pool and those tapes are first inserted in the tape drive on Fridays.

Before the upgrade a synthetic full where created on the weekend tape job.

I have open a case with Veeam Support Case # 01788029 but i have been asked to open a case with the Endpoint team, but i'll like to try this forum in hope off other have seen this.

Hi Dennis,
is created a new full (VBK) file every day
Can you clarify how virtual full backup in the tape job properties is configured? Thanks.

Hi Dima

i dont think i understand what you mean on virtual full backup in the tape job. Cannot find anything about that i the properties on the tape job. I just know that the tape job on the weekend creates a synthetic full on the endpoint backup before version 1.5.0.306

This:
If the source job produces a forever incremental backup chain or is a backup copy job, Veeam Backup & Replication will periodically create a virtual full backup. You can configure the full backup schedule at this step of the wizard. The virtual full cannot be switched off; however, it is disabled automatically if the source job periodically creates active full or synthetic full backups.

Doublecheck this schedule – maybe you have more than one day checked.

Understood. This behavior does not look like expected behavior – can you please open a support case for VBR tape functionality, you may refer to this thread. Do not forget to post the case ID in this thread.

P.S. Can I ask why you are still running the v8 version? V9 Update 1 was released, so it’s safe to upgrade.

Ok. I already have a case open as posted in the first post. Case # 01788029 they want me to open a case with the endpoint team. I try to show this thread in my open case.

We just haven't had the time to upgrade, do your know haw long it takes to run the upgrade?

Sorry, missed that. No need to open another case, since the problem might be on VBR side (looks like VBR’s tape job is creating additional synthetics backup, not VEB).

Upgrade should be fast, but do not forget to install the Update 1 on top of the v9, once you decide to upgrade the VBR server.

Ok. Well it doesn't like it creates a synthetic backup to tape. in the action windows for the job there is two lines one that starts with New strorage ..... .vib file and another Modified storage ..... .vbk file

It says nothing on synthetic creation, as it does on the weekend job (Saturday)

That’s very strange. Kindly, keep working with the support team – the debug logs investigation might give a hint on what’s going on. Please do not forget to update this thread with the results.

Yesterday afternoon I upgraded to version9 and update 1. It looks like it solved the problem, because to day the tape job only copied the incremental Endpoint files.
