Endpoint Backup and Windows 7 Embedded
Hi guys,
Best Wishes for 2016!
Today we tried to create a backup of a Windows 7 embedded machine.
This Windows Embedded machine will be installed later on into a container carrier.
To be able to recover the machine quickly in case of an "disaster" we installed Veeam Endpoint Backup.
When we tried to create the recovery media, the following error showed.
Does anyone have any experience with this? What does it mean and can we solve it? Is Windows Embedded edition supported by Veeam Endpoint backup?
Thanks for any thoughts you might have.
Remko

Hi,
Such behaviour is expected - please refer to helpcenter article ("NOTE" section):

Thank you.In some cases, Windows Recovery Environment components may be missing on the system, and Veeam Endpoint Backup will not find them during the Veeam Recovery Media creation. In such case you will be prompted to do one of the following:
▪Insert the Windows Installation Media so that Veeam Endpoint Backup can load the necessary components from it.
▪Download and install Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (MS ADK).
Note that the Veeam Recovery Media created with MS ADK components will not contain the following tools:
▪Windows Recovery Environment
▪Memory Diagnostic
▪Startup Repair

Re: Endpoint Backup and Windows 7 Embedded
We got it working. It was as simple as mounting a virtual Win7 DVD and pointing Veeam to it.

[MERGED] Windows 7 embedded support?
I don' think windows 7 Embedded has VSS. Is there anyway to disable VSS and still get crash-consistent in the Endpoint Backup?

Hi,
Thank you.
No, that is not possible. VSS snapshot is what lets Veeam Endpoint to make backups consistent. Without it your backup would be of the same state as if you just tried to copy all the files with Ctrl+C. Also AFAIK VSS is still present in Embedded Windows 7 although it's a removable component. Is there anyway to disable VSS and still get crash-consistent in the Endpoint Backup?
Thank you.

Re: Endpoint Backup and Windows 7 Embedded
Hello Matt,
Agree with Pavel. Is it possible to test if the backup is working on your win7 embedded edition, as users above reported that they were able to successfully backup their machine. Kindly, don’t forget to update this thread with the results. Thank you in advance.

Re: Endpoint Backup and Windows 7 Embedded
Hi paolone,
If embedded build lacks VSS components there is no workaround. Veeam Agent for Windows requires VSS being present in operating system in order to take image level backup.
