exFAT support in version 6

Post by Albeck »

Hi folks,

I think I came across some contradictory documentation.

In the release notes for version 6 Veeam Windows Agent (https://www.veeam.com/veeam_agent_windo ... tes_rn.pdf / https://www.veeam.com/kb2683) it is stated, that exFAT support as backup target is no longer supportet.
"exFAT file system is no longer supported as a backup target, please change your backup job settings accordingly."

I know that exFAt has some troubles. https://www.veeam.com/kb4233

However in the System Requirements Documentation, there is exFAT still listet. (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60)

Also in the System Requirements Documentation there is no hint about exFAT not being supportet as target.
I think this should be reworked, because only a few will read release notes pdf and the majority will use the "official documentation" website.

Backing up to a exFAT drive still works and completes successfully .

So is the announcement that exFAT is no longer supportet only important for official support cases and from a technical perspective nothing changed?

Hi Florian

Thanks. If you find some mistakes in the user guide, you can always use the feedback button at the bottom of the page. For this request I will ask tech writers to add a statement in the backup target section.

This about backup source, not as a backup target.

Not supported means we don't tested it anymore. It may still work. But we cannot provide any support in case something goes wrong because of the exFAT filesystem.
