Failed to backup file, but why?

Post by UT2015 »

Hi there,

we have a Veeam Agent job which backups local files on our backup server into the Veeam repository (those local files are copied from external systems periodically to the backup server).

Last night the job failed. In the Veeam Agent GUI there's one warning: "Failed to backup [folder\subfolder\msdb.bak]".

The logfile "Job.Backup_Job_SERVER.Backup.log" contains following lines:

Code: Select all

All local volumes have enough free space left. The file msdb.bak has a timestamp of 20:10, so it most probably was not in use. The Windows Event Log does not have any warnings at 23:15, which could have something to do with disk problems or anything like that.

Does anybody know what the actual problem might be?

Best regards,

Hi UT,

Have you already raised a support case?

Personally, I think the msdb.bak file was locked for some reason. Most likely because it was involved in some independent backup/restore process! Our support engineers should be able to say more based on additional information.

Thanks

Hello UT2015,

Due to VSS being used during backup, locks should not be the root cause. My vote goes for detailed log review with our support team. Cheers!

Did you ever get to the bottom of this one? I am having the same issue backing up SQL file backups.

Hi Nikolai,

I would strongly recommend raising an independent support case as the root cause might be different. Please let us know your case ID once done so we could keep an eye on it.

Thanks
