failed to install driver, Error no_device_id

Post by dani72 »

OK I have veeam agent for windows version 2.2.0.589 installed on windows 10
OK all updated in windows update, it makes backup copies correctly on an external NAS.
OK The hardware is an HP Z2 G4, the integrated Intel Ethernet Conection I219-LM network adapter.
OK: I create the recovery CD with the option to include drivers for this pc
Fail: I start with the baremetal option, but the network device does not recognize
Fail: I give it to load driver and I put the correct path of a USB with a updated driver, but not recognize the device_id either.

Has anyone tried with similar computer or has this problem?

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the community Dani.

Was the Recovery Media created on the same machine you are restoring? When booted in Recovery Media what is the state of your network driver when you go to Tools > Load Driver? Thanks!

Yes, the recovery media is created in the same machine.
When I go to Tools, network adapter is present and status is Load Driver. If I go to load driver, explore files and select the driver, no load possible error of device_id

Dani,

Can you please make sure that the version of the driver is compatible with Recovery Media version? I.e. if Recovery Media was created from Windows 10 machine, then download Windows 10 drivers here and try to load them to RE. Cheers!

I create the recovery DVD, I select the option to include the pc drivers. Additionally, I mark to add other drivers and charge the folder with the ethernet drivers, downloaded from the web that you mentioned above, Windows 10 version x64.

Boot with this DVD, no network recognize. Try to load the driver....

I attached screenshots so you can see errors, pc not recognize and not load the corresponding driver.

Hello Dani.

Thank you for the screenshots and detailed explanation. I am out of any ideas now, is it possible for you to open a support case via Veeam Agent for Windows Control Panel? Cheers!

[MERGED] Veeam cannot find the NETWORK DRIVER to restore "NO_DEVICE_ID"

Post by rockandroller »

support case ID 03896198

Very strange... using fresh updated recovery media.

here is the error message

Image

This is Windows 10 Professional 1809, Veeam agent 3.02.1170 free.

Anyone seen this sort of thing before? I tried to load the raw drivers off the driver CD, but get the same error.
This is a pretty new Aquantia AQtion AQN-107 10GB network card, which does work fine in all other respects...

The previous poster didn't mention his support case number to see the resolution, so once you resolve it with our support team, please post your solution for future readers. Thanks!

UPDATE: I never did resolve this with Veeam support team, free support didn't see this as essential to solve and instead directed me to card maker.
I did tech support with card maker - they found it all works fine. (???)
Eventually we determined that while I have been using Veeam Agent V3 all along - they (the card maker) - were using Veeam Agent "version 4" - AND IN THE END, when they tried it with Veeam agent "Version 3", they were able to replicate the error!

TAKEAWAY: I discovered that "Check for updates" in Veeam agent V3 never can detect the existence of V4...
Once I manually updated to Veeam Agent V4, the problem is SOLVED.
Updating all of our workstations to Veeam Agent V4 this week! :)

For reference: this was veeam support case 03896198

Hello Michael,

Thanks for the heads up, glad to hear that v4 fixed all the problems! I'll pass you feedback to support team and will ask to review the case details.

As for automatic updates - it's currently disabled, thus no notification. We usually enable auto updates approximately after two months since GA date. Cheers!
