Feature Request - Backup validation

Post by NashBrydges »

Hi All,

I would like to see the ability to validate or verify the backup once complete. This also means that I'd like to see the appropriate notifications in the event validation/verification fails.

Hi, what test specifically do you mean by each term?

While I can't necessarily speak to the technical execution of how this would be delivered, I'd be looking for confirmation that what was backed up is in fact accurate and that if I were to suffer a loss and in need of restoration of my data or volume, I would have no problems. A similar function I can think of is how Veeam B&R launches a VM instance to verify the backup. Granted in this type of product a full VM validation isn't likely to be included but maybe something like the RESTORE VERIFYONLY function of SQL Server or using CHECKSUMs or confirming that all volumes/files are indeed readable...etc.

Hope this helps.
