Folders in Backup not same like productive system

Post by Kirchner1990 »

Hi together,

I have a strange problem. Because of Microsoft's 256 letters limitation in folder and filenames, we have created a new naming concept long ago.
It is very easy. We use one folder for the data and the same foldername but with additional extension of more letters for description.

eg:
"C:\name46_6946" -> with data in it
"C:\name46_6946__Important_Project_Data" -> no data in it, only for description. (name46_6946 for same order so the description folder is directly under the data folder)

But now we have the problem in backup. I do not see BOTH folders!!! I only see the long description folder, but the data of the DATA folder is in the description folder. But only in the backup!!!
So in backup it seems to be copied together in one folder. Really strange.
When I open the path to VeeamFLR in explorer, it is the same...only one folder with the long description name but the data is inside which shouldn't be :-(

Can you help me with that? Version is 2.0.0.700 in Free Mode. But I will update it later to the newest version.

Thanks a lot for any hint!

Entire PC backup is an image based backup without any predefined or custom exclusions. Could it be restore point related to the point in time where this folder was not created (or was deleted)? Have you tried other restore points? Thanks in advance.

In 2-3 Restore Points made by the old version of Veeam Agent (v2.0.0.700) there was always the same behaviour.
The Restore Point with the new version after the defective ones didn't show only one folder but both of them! So everything worked like a charm.
There was definitely no time where only one of these folders where there.

I can't really understand, why some folders in the backup were correct and some examples were copied together in one folder.

Thanks for the heads up! Glad to hear that it works as expected now. If you want your old restore point issue to be investigated – please submit a support case (we would need you debug logs).

Not for me, thanks! It is fixed now, so we do not have a problem any more.
If it occurs again, I will contact you again including Logs!

Thank you very much for your assistance !!!

Valentino
