Does anyone here know what are the limitations of the free version of the VAW?

Just as a additional limitation from the license side. You can't use our free products to provide services to third parties.
If you have a customer who wants to use the Veeam Agent, he must have a paid license, if you are involved in consulting, implementing or helping in technical issues.
