Full backup compact and defrag Bandwidth Limitation

Post by micavi »

Hi,

This is my first post here.

when performing a full backup compact and defrag, the system requires double the storage space to work.

Though, during the process of recreating the full backup to compact and defrag, is a high bandwidth still required?

My issue is that I am going to perform one full backup on site of 11.1TB, then perform offsite incremental backups of 15GB over VPN with an upload speed of 50mbps.

Will the full backup compact and defrag take as long as it would take for a full backup to perform?

If yes, do you have another alternative for once full backup onsite with continuous incremental offsite?

Looking forward to your reply.

The compact process is done on the repository and from the Repo server. The compact will take some time on an 11xTB backup file for sure as you need that much space to even perform the process. Here are some helpful links -
