[FEATURE REQUEST] Granular Admin Control

Post by david.plenker »

We are a Cloud Connect Service Provider selling a managed backup service. We control the clients on our customers machines, specifying backup target, retention, schedule and even which folders to backup. We use file level backup to just backup certain folders on the clients. The backup policy is read only for the customer. This means that they need to contact us if the need to change any settings regarding what to backup.

We would like to see a more granular control of the client, so we may give control over certain settings to the end user. Today it is all or nothing. Specifying which settings are admin only, and which are user enabled would be a great feature.

David, do you have a list of options you would like to expose to an end customer? What are the most frequently asked change requests so far?

At the moment, the only options we would like to expose to the end user is drive/folder/file selection and appaware guest processing with necessary credentials. The need for more options may be requested by other service providers.

Ok, so it would be customers who will define what to back up and not you, correct?

Yes, being able to control it for each customer would be ideal. Those customers who would like to control what data to back up may be given the control over folder and file selection. For the other customers, we can manage the backup as we do today, where we control what to back up.

Ok! This should be easy to implement as a part of backup policy configuration in VAC, as well as making this settings available in VAW. Let us discuss it with Dima P. and plan it for our next updates.
