How does the backup data traffic flows?

Hi,

We are using VEB on a Physical Server on a co-location. The VEB client writes its backup data to a backup repository in the main DC.
One of our network guys told me that when the backup runs, he also seeing al lot of traffic from the main dc to the co-location. Why is this? Is this for deduplicating purposes or so?

What is the backup target in your case? CIFS share? Does it have a proxying server specified in the repository settings?

To build an incremental backup VEB should request an information from existing backup chain, so this behavior is expected
