Installation fails - Veeam.Setup.Endpoint.dat

Post by gonzo99 »

I am installing VEB on several important machines in our domain. On some of them it works perfectly, on one it fails.
It is a Win 8.1 Pro machine, freshly installed and fully patched. There are some other software products installed (Office 2013, IBM Client Access & Lotus Notes). I tried to install with three versions (1.0.0.1954, 1.1.1.212 and 1.1.2.119), but the result is always the same.
When launched the setup program discovers McAfee (Service disabled) and when I click on ok a window appears telling me that Veeam.Setup.Endpoint doesn't work anymore (In german: Veeam.Setup.Endpoint funktioniert nicht mehr) and the installation stops. No more information on the screen.

Only the windows application log tells more, it throws out two errors:

Now I am at the end of my wisdom. As a B&R licensee I can submit a support case, but proably there's a workaround available.

Thanks for your reply, but as I've written above the AV service is completely disabled. So there is no AV scanning active.
Until now I have installed VEB on five machines of the same type and OS and disabling the service was sufficient for installing the product on all of them.
On this machine the setup doesn't even start and I don't believe that this problem is AV-related.

Anyway, I have read the article you have linked and I have the appropriate exclusions defined on the EPO server and they have been pushed to the machines.

Please open a case with support so they can take a closer look at your environment.

Thank you.

The supporter asked if I have disabled the AV scanner as the setup proposed.... of course all AV services are disabled, that's what I've told them in the submit case text.
Later one try to install was successful, but I don't know what made VEB to change it's mind, I didn't change anything except several reboots. Then I mailed to the support that they can close this case, but that was jumped too short.

After installation I was able to configure VEB and let it backup the machine. So far so good, but after a reboot the tray icon crashed whenever I tried to touch it with the mouse and I received these errors:

Uninstall and re-install lead to the same errors as in my first post, no way to start the setup. No matter what I try, uninstall every piece of software except Office 2013, repair the net.framework installation with DISM and some tools, nothing.

At this point I give up, I have lost a lot of time and this machine is needed urgently. IMHO there is a problem with software installed after initial OS setup, I tried to install on a naked 8.1 and that went through without problems. Probably a MS patch or fix, I cannot put my fingers on that.
