Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Job is setup to backup the physical Veeam B&R server every Saturday, it seems to be stuck so I cancelled the job. It is now stuck cancelling. I tried stopping and restarting the service but that made no difference. The job has been running for over 700 hours and it up to it's 56th retry as it says that their is not enough space on drive C: to create VSS snapshot

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Hello John,
Are you backing up over slow links or it’s a LAN connection? In addition, we need logs for troubleshooting purposes, so please open a support case via Endpoint’s Control Panel > Technical support tab and let me know the case ID.

When I try and submit a case it fails and just says one or more errors occurred. It is running over a LAN.

John,
Can you grab the logs from C:\ProgramData\Veeam and share it with me via One Drive or Google Drive?

Hi John,
Sorry for the delay and thank you for the logs. I've shared it with QA, so the link was removed from the thread - feel free to delete it. I'll follow up once I hear any results.

Hi John,
Sorry for the delay. QA team has reviewed your logs. It seems that lack of disk space on you OS volume caused this behavior (it addition to the VSS snapshot failure). Can you run MS disk cleanup and free some space and check if the said behavior still persists? Thanks.

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Hi Dmitry,
I was unable to cancel the job, so I stopped the service and uninstalled the software as this seemed the only way to cancel the job. Maybe this is something the developers should take into account.
The drive has 7.5 GB free and I am unable to free up any more space. So if 7.5 GB is not enough free space to be able to run a backup there is really no point in me re-installing the software.
thanks,
John

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
John,
7.5 GB indeed should be enough for the OS to work properly, thanks for letting us know – I’ll ask QA team to continue investigation. Just to be sure, after you stopped the service, have you checked the VEB - the service restart might solve your issue.

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Hi Dmitry,
So I re-installed the software after having uninstalled it and it still says the job is cancelling. Obviously the uninstall does not work very well.
It left directories in:
C:\program files\veeam\endpoint backup\metadata
C:\programdata\veeam\endpoint
C:\programdata\veeam\endpointdata
I deleted these directories and re-installed the product and it STILL says the job is cancelling .... so obviously it has left something behind but I have no idea where that would be.
So it appears to be impossible to cancel the job.

John,
Thanks - we are still investigating. Meanwhile, try the solution (below red warning) from this post.
UPDATE: Can you share the logs from C:\ProgramData\Veeam, Windows event for Veeam Endpoint Backup application and Windows System logs with me? Thanks.

Hi Dmitry,
That registry change did the trick and I can now recreate another job. Will run it this weekend to see if it works ok.
thanks,
John

Glad to hear it! It is possible to provide any information that I previously requested (windows event and setup logs), since we are still investigating – it might help a lot.

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Hi Dmitry,
On another note I have set the backup to backup daily at 8:30 and changed the option to "backup no more often than 7 day" but it is still backing up every day. When I had the software running before I re-installed it the was doing the backup every 7 days ... any idea on this ?
thanks,
John

John,
So you see two separate job runs on the chart, even though you have an interval set to 7 days, right?

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
I had the same issue recently, using VEB 1.1.2.119 on Windows 10.
I couldn't cancel, rebooting didn't help.
Uninstalling VEB and 3 SQL components didn't help either.
Resetting the database worked perfectly, using your instructions, Dima P.
I also created a write-up that might help folks, that includes a step-by-step video:
https://TinkerTry.com/veeam-endpoint-ba ... eset#steps

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
I have made a new exclusion rule which I think may have helped a bit but some machines still get a bit laggy. The only thing that seems to tank is the network, specifically Internet.
I can try and get some pics posted. Just need to find a free image hosting site.

Re: Job stuck and unable to be cancelled
Thanks for a screenshots! Network monitor might not reflect the resource consumptions correctly since VEB can ‘talk’ with itself using the local networks sockets. By lags you meant the overall OS behavior or backup job performance?

[MERGED] Job stuck on Canceling
Hello,
I'm using the agent on Windows Server 2012 and it is currently stuck at cancelling job. I tried to submit a case from the Backup Agent, but it keeps saying "an error has occurred"
Thank you in advance for any assistance. I'll continue to try and submit a case but I have been unable to for the past 24 hours and I keep trying.

Hi Adrian,
Please review any Veeam processes via Task Manager and finish their tasks, also service restart might be required. Once you do this, please contact our support team to review why the backup job stalled.
Thanks!

Re: Job stuck on Canceling
Hello thank you for the help I've done the following:
-Opened up task manager, and Ended Processes that belong to Veeam (Veeam Endpoint Tray)
-Also stopped and restarted the Veeam Endpoint service
-Rebooted the server that Veeam Endpoint is installed on
-Rebooted the server that B&R is installed on
-Uninstalled old version of Veeam Agent and insalled v2.0.0.700
-Upgraded Veeam B&R to 9.5.0.1038
-Rebooted B&R server again after installation
-Tried to Report and Issue within Veeam Agent for Windows, but when I click Submit it still says One or more errors occurred.
