Large incremental backups
Hi Everyone,
Is there anywhere in the veeam logs that would give us a hint at why an endpoint client would suddenly start doing massive incrementals the same size as the original fulls? I realize that doing volume backup would be block level so things like defragmenting a drive or massive movement of big files.
thanks

Hi Geoff,
I doubt that you can get this information from the logs. Do you have the defrag scheduled or you run it occasionally?

Re: Large incremental backups
Hi Dima,
I don't have access to the server . I did see some messages about not being able to find exchange logs then triggering full backups of the edb, so my guess is that something or someone deleted exchange transaction logs with some other process, then veeam comes along and understandably thinks.. oh no!!!! and just in case does full on the edbs.
cheers

Re: Large incremental backups
Nope, that should not be the reason. What is your backup destination?

Re: Large incremental backups
But if this is an Exchange server, then I guess it should produce lots of changes, as it is a highly-transnational app?

Hi Vitaly,
Yes, I agree but the behaviour suddenly changed for 3 days out of the norm.
Back to normal now
cheers

Re: Large incremental backups
Good to know that it is back to normal! I would suggest looking through the Windows Event Log for some scheduled maintenance tasks records, can help in nailing down this behavior.
