Thanks for this information, and the merge. I'll test those registry keys after I'm done evaluating another backup software.

JFTR, the complete term was:
"[04.09.2015 08:08:43] <01> Warning You are running low disk space on HP_RECOVERY"
although this partition wasn't used for storing backup files.

Thank for the heads up Wolfgang! This warning refers to VSS limitation and possible failure in creating the VSS snapshot for the volume if it lacks the free space. The key above should help to ignore it.

[MERGED] Free Space Warning only for Endpoint Backups

Post by homerjnick »

I use my Veeam Repository to host my VM backups as well as Endpoint backups.

I have set the repository to notify with a warning if the repository is under a certain percentage of free space left. At present we are not breaching this and all our VM backups report successful.

Out first line support advised that some backups have a warning that there is low space on the repository and it is only the Endpoint backup emails that show this.

I can't see any options within the Control Panel of each physical server backed up with Endpoint to set the threshold for this but Endpoint backups are NOT using the threshold set in Veeam B&R GUI > Options > Notifications.

How can I set this for Endpoint backups so that the emails generated for Endpoint backups use the same threshold of percentage of free space remaining on my repository as VM backups do?

Hi Nick,

Threshold is managed locally at every Endpoint and is not somehow related to VBR settings.

Create a key at VEB:

Code: Select all

HKLM\Software\Veeam\Veeam Endpoint Backup\
DWORD
BackupRepositoryFreeSpaceThresholdPercent
Set amount of space is percents (default is 10%)

Re: [MERGED] Backup location is getting low on free disk space

Do you use a B&R-managed repository as a repo for your Endpoint jobs? If so, then you can change notification settings on your B&R server - please check this article.

Thank you.
Thanks for the hint, but no effect here with the latest B&R v10a.
Got HP laptop with RECOVERY partition. Windows Disk Manager says it is "Healthy (OEM Partition)", NTFS with 11% free, but I still get warnings in the Agent.
I guess Agent may be receiving 0% free instead.

Both "BackupRepositoryFreeSpaceThresholdPercent" and tuning Server notification options didn't help, only "DisableVolumeFreeSpaceCheckWarning" did.
Pity in year 2020 I have to tune the Agent via GPO, not the Agent Policy.

Small off-topic:
What are the actual benefits of using a target for PC backups as "Repository" vs "File Share" on that same backup server?

Performance and reliability, from avoiding additional network traffic and SMB stack.

Small update: vendor & recovery partition notifications should be gone in upcoming v5, we've slightly tuned the code to exclude the non-data volumes from the notification logic.

@Dima do you know if this is still being worked on? I just upgraded to the "Veeam Agent for MIcrosoft Windows 5.0.0.4301 - Free Edition" (from v4) last night and I'm still getting the following log entries this morning:

"Volume (R:) does not have enough free disk space to create VSS snapshot"
"Disk (R:) is running low on free space"

In Windows Explorer, the R volume shows as 0 bytes (used and free) and it's formatted in RAW but in Disk Manager it's 2.24GB.

I've been using "Entire Computer" as the Backup Mode. Not sure if I should change to Volume Level Backup to exclude the recovery partition or whether this is supposed to be fixed. It's really annoying to get warning emails every day when everything is just fine.

My case # is 04670454

Hello jjblodg,

Thanks for the case ID!
"Disk (R:) is running low on free space"
This notification represents that your repository is running low on free space.
"Volume (R:) does not have enough free disk space to create VSS snapshot. In Windows Explorer, the R volume shows as 0 bytes (used and free) and it's formatted in RAW but in Disk Manager it's 2.24GB."
We will review this one, as I believe it not be displayed. Stay tuned.

Looks like this is a non-system partition and, unfortunately, our suppress logic does not work (it ignores only system partitions). We'll discuss with R&D folks how to improve it further based on your feedback. Cheers!

Given that it is 2022, and people are aware of this error and workaround, shouldn't there just be an easy way to disable it or set it somehwere in Veeam One (or any other console based warning this is a part of?) Have brand new Veeam server set up as of a few weeks ago, we are getting these all the time. I suggest Feature Request, but I see that others have suggested it as well. Thx!
