Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
Veeam agent free 2.2.0.589
Windows Server 2008 R2
Backups are configured to be kept 5 days computer is running.
Full backups are made on saturdays.
Incremental on Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri at 02:00 (night)
But now I have those files in my backup storage:
09 feb: full at 16:00 (vbk)
12 feb: incremental at 02:00 (vbi)
13 feb: incremental at 02:00
14 feb: incremental at 02:00
16 feb: full at 7:30
19 feb: incremental at 02:00
20 feb: incremental at 02:00
21 feb: incremental at 02:00
22 feb: incremental at 02:00
Today is 22 feb. All backups before 17 feb should be deleted.
Why the 09, 12, 13, 14 backups still exist?

Re: Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
Hello Vladimir,
If I am not missing anything old backup chain should be removed with the next job run. Can you please check it and update this thread with the results? Thanks!

Re: Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
I had to manually remove old chain at 01:00 because of low storage space. I will check it next week on Friday-to-Saturday.
I have the same version on my own Win7: 6 days retention period, full backups on Friday at 21:00, incremental on all other days at 21:00.
On my computer old chain is removed on Thursday right after incremental backup. So I have only one last chain by the moment of next full backup on Friday.
My backup storage on Thursday (21 feb) before backup:
08 feb (vbk)
09 feb (vbi)
10 feb (vbi)
11 feb (vbi)
12 feb (vbi)
13 feb (vbi)
14 feb (vbi)
15 feb (vbk)
16 feb (vbi)
17 feb (vbi)
18 feb (vbi)
19 feb (vbi)
20 feb (vbi)
My backup storage on Friday (22 feb) before full backup:
15 feb (vbk)
16 feb (vbi)
17 feb (vbi)
18 feb (vbi)
19 feb (vbi)
20 feb (vbi)
21 feb (vbi)
And this is how it is supposed to act. As far as I understand.
This is strange. I thought that chain is removed on next full backup, BUT:If I am not missing anything old backup chain should be removed with the next job run.

Re: Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
Vladimir,
Backup chain gets removed when the last incremental restore point in this backup chain is retired. The removal is performed by the regular backup job run (once new restore point is created it performs the retention check). Cheers!

So why 09-14 feb chain has not been removed neither on 21 nor on 22 feb?
The retention period is 5 days.

Re: Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
Last night I've freed enough space to store 3 full backups and let it make next full backup.
The mentioned chain has been deleted at the end of the backup.
But anyway I have created case yesterday (before backup). I think this is strange: on my own win7 workstation old backup chains are deleted after incremental backups, no need to wait next full backup.

Re: Old backups do not delete in Agent Free on Windows
As smart people say: "If something does not work then RTFM"
A manual says retention period counts not real days in calendar, but days with successfull backup.
So there is no error.
My fault.
