Hi guys,
Just wondering if it the below is within licensing terms:
Parent company A holds perpetual licenses for veeam BR and uses that to back up primary infrastructure to a NAS and off-site, standard procedure.
However parent company A has some wholly owned subsidiaries in other countries, let's call them companies B and C, the parents company and all subsidiaries share a single corporate network.
Would it be within licensing terms for companies B and C which are in entirely separate countries to use Veeam agent for windows(free) or veeam b&r free edition to back up their own local VMs to a NAS in their respective countries or would this breach the mixing of free and paid licenses?
Note that free agent or B&R community edition would never touch the parent company's paid B&R solution in any way
Happy to clarify further if needed and thanks in advance!!

Re: Paid B&R and Agent on the same network?
Hello,
and welcome to the forums.
Please note, that this is R&D forums and licensing is a sales topic. To answer your question: yes, you can do it. Even if it was just one company, one can use free agents as long as it's "different infrastructure".
https://www.veeam.com/eula.html - there is a section about free licenses and community edition. It refers to the licensing policy https://www.veeam.com/licensing-policy.html and there you can find some more details what's not allowed.
Mainly the restriction about "same source"

Best regards,Sharing of the Source Infrastructure between different Community Edition and Free Licenses is prohibited. This includes using multiple Community Edition deployments, or using both paid licenses and Community Edition deployments, to protect different parts of the same Source Infrastructure.

Re: Paid B&R and Agent on the same network?
Apologies for the wrong category, my bad.
Thanks for your response, I have read both of the docs linked but can see no clear definition of 'source infrastructure '.
In my case we have one single network over multiple sites through a site to site VPN and I can't tell if each remote site's infrastructure could be covered with instances of B&R community edition in each region. There would be no crossover of paid and free, in that any B&R CE instance would not ever try to back up a VM covered by a paid license and vice versa, we use paid licenses currently for central vsphere infra, our remote sites are primarily hyper v so would it be possible to back up remote sites with B&R CE?
Thanks

Re: Paid B&R and Agent on the same network?
Absolutely not. For simplicity, consider the 10 license limitation of CE to be a "per company" limitation. The spirit of this limitation is such that there are no scenarios where a given company is allowed to protect more than 10 workloads in their IT environment with CE, regardless of the network layout or a number of sites. If we were fine about that, we would not have a 10 licenses limit in the first place.
