Possibility to hide tray icon permanently?
Hi folks,
is it possible to hide the tray icon permanently?
A customer wants to backup a PC of one of his employees, but the employee shall not get notice of it.... We don't ask for the reasons, we only realise it if possible

Sebastian,
When VEB is installed under another user (for example, the administrator) then the end-user will not see the icon if I am not mistaken

This doesn't work... I installed VEB under my account (member of local administrators group) and tested with the domain admin account.. he can see the tray icon

But does the end-user see it? Is he also a member of the local administrators group?

Re: Possibility to hide tray icon permanently?
I created another domain user without special rights on my computer. He can also see the tray icon. But is the icon necessary for VEB to work as expected? What if I forbid the user to start the Veeam.EndPoint.Tray.exe with third-party software, or a GPO?

Can that user actually start something from the tray icon? I thought that was not possible. You can always hide the icon and suppress the notifications. But in all honesty, I have never worked out a setup like that. Maybe @dima knows more on how to achieve this

Re: Possibility to hide tray icon permanently?
Update from the customer: He only wants to run a one-time backup of that computer. My colleague, which takes care for the customer, found another backup software which can be run as a portable app from an usb-stick.... That should be enough in his opinion.
Thanks for your help so far!
Btw.: In the meantime I tried the application startup control from Kaspersky to prohibit the start of the Veeam.Endpoint.Tray.exe... that works, too

Sebastian,
Good catch, thanks! It’s true that tray can be closed without any impact on backup job with the help of any third party application or windows tools.
