How did you present this storage to your Endpoint machine? If it is exposed as CIFS share, then it is fully supported. Can you please open a support case and let us take a look at the log files?

It could be permission related. Make sure that you can read/write to the shared path using the credentials that you supplied VEB.

Try putting in your path using the ip instead of name.
\\192.168.1.20\<Your backup share name> (Replace 192.168.1.20 to the IP of you local NAS device)
Some VPN tunnels when configured as such can redirect all traffic out the VPN. You can try doing a trace route to the local NAS device by IP/DNS name when connected to the VPN and see if you get there. If you do, then it shouldn't be the VPN.
