Question about retention

Post by pstoric83 » May 17, 2019 2:39 pm

Say I have a folder that’s in my backup set c:\users\admin\scanned data and I delete it from my PC that’s running Veeam agent that’s using default settings. Will it still be there after 14 days? Just asking as it’s set to “keep backups for the past 14 days”.

Hi Paul,

Can you provide a bit more information about the agent settings, retention value, license type, have you periodic active fulls, it can help to get the whole picture.
Since the retention policy can work in a couple different ways.

Thanks!

It's using all the default values of Veeam Agent free so

Backup mode: Entire computer
Destination: SMB share from NAS, keep backups for 14 days, nothing used under advanced so no active full backups
Schedule is nightly

If you already have a backup chain of 14 RPs, then the folder will be available for restore another 15 days until the restore point without the folder will be injected into the full backup file.
So, the answer on the question above is no.

You can find out detailed information about the Retention Policy in Free edition here. Thanks!
