Hello Community and good day,
just a quick question here regarding the bare-metal recoverability (using Veeam Recovery Media) of the volume related to the OS installed on a protected computer running Windows Server. We are using the Paid Agent License.
From a bare-metal recoverability standpoint, are the two options below equivalent to each other ?
==================================================
1. Selecting the "Volume level backup" option at the Backup Mode step of the wizard and then adding the "OS volume" option
2. Selecting the "File level backup" option at the Backup Mode step of the wizard and then selecting the check box next to the "Operating system" object among other file system folders
==================================================
The reason behind the this question - we need to protect a physical Windows server on-prem and we would like to be able to perform both bare-metal recovery of the "OS volume" as well as file-level recovery of a couple of folders residing in another volume (which doesn't need to be backed up entirely).
Based on my understanding, a Hybrid backup that contains the OS volume and individual folders sounds like the way to go with one job in this scenario.
Any thought on this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
Massimiliano

Hi Massimiliano
That's correct. They are equivalent from a DR perspective.
For file level backup jobs you should activate the "Operating system". Processing for the system volumes is then block based. On other disks where you only choose a few files, processing is file based.
