Recovering whole server with Veeam Agent Free

Post by mark32 »

Hello.

We use Veeam Agent for MS Windows 2.2.0.589 Free Edition in our small company to make everyday backups of our Windows Server 2012 on IBM server with raid 5. Server is not a domain controller etc, it just serves some services and databases (PostgreSQL) for our company specific software. Few days ago something changed and our software stopped working. There is no contact with software developer who could diagnose the problem. One of ideas is to restore whole server with Veeam to the point when everything worked fine.

Beacause this hasn't been practised yet and I wouldn't like to stay with no server if anything went wrocg, I'd have some questions.
1. Should restoring be done from Windows or it's better to boot server wih recovery media and restore from there?
2. I'know the version 2.2.0.589 is old. Should I update it first to current version or leave as is as the backups were done with 2.2.0.589?
3. Anything I shoud be aware of and what can go wrong?

Thank you.

Hello Mark and welcome to the community!

1. It's up to you. You can make volume-level restore or restore from recovery media.
2. You don't need to upgrade to the latest product version to perform a restore.
3. Nothing specific. Just read userguide section for the chosen restore type.

Thanks

Thank you. I see that with volume-level restore I can't restore system volume. So I think I'll choose restoring from recovery media.
