Hi,
we are using B+R8 to backup our VMware environment. We are forcing a full backup of the environment once a week, which is then backed up to tape.
We are backing up several physical systems with VEB (latest version). Those backups are also integrated in the full backup (to tape) once a week.
The problem is that the full backup on tape contains only increments of the VEB backups. We would really like to have the ability to force a full backup on a certain day to make sure that our full backup on tape also contains a full backup of VEB.
We know that there can be done a standalone full backup, but this would be more complicated: We would have to make sure that the standalone full backups get reorganized. We would also have the full VEB backups *and* the increments included in the full tape backup.
So forcing a full backup on a certain day/certain time would really be a helpful feature.
Regards,

Re: Request for feature to force standalone backup
Hi UT2015,
As far as I know, when you perform a backup to tape virtual full backup (full backup on tape made from incremental restore point on disk) should be created for forever incremental backup jobs. Since VEB jobs are the same type, backup to tape should split the forever incremental chain with such full backups.
Kindly, check this tape article how to properly set the virtual full to tape.

Re: Request for feature to force standalone backup
Hi Dima,
thanks for the Information, that worked fine.
But we came across a different problem: Because the Backup to Tape takes some hours, the next planned endpoint backup (into the Veeam Backup Repository) was already started during the tape backup. This led to the tape backup being cancelled, because it could not access a file in the folder containing the endpoint backup.
Is there no way to organize those two concurrent backups? I know that the backup to tape can be delayed, if there is an endpoint backup which is still running, but the endpoint backup can probably not be delayed until the backup to tape has finished?

Re: Request for feature to force standalone backup
Hi,
is there no solution for this problem? It is absolutely reproducable: When an Endpoint Backup is started during an active Backup-To-Tape (which contains the Endpoint Backup and which forces a syncthetic backup), the Backup-To-Tape fails, because the files in the Veeam Repository containing the Endpoint Backup are changing/can't be accessed.
Is there no way to synchronize those two backups except the starting time? Because the (full) Backup-To-Tape takes approx. 21h it is not possible to synchronize the daily Endpoint Backup with it.

Re: Request for feature to force standalone backup
Hi UT2015,
Thanks! Yes, I am aware that VEB job can stop the tape job – we are going to change this behavior in the upcoming release. Meanwhile, you can set tape job to start ‘as a new backup file appear’ - that should work.
