Restore 32bit to 64bit

Post by FuriousRabbit »

I'm currently backing up a Windows 32 bit machine and plan on restoring this machine to new hardware. The backup mode I'm using is 'Entire computer'. I'm going to be purchasing a new system with 64bit Windows. What will my options be for a restore to this hardware?

Hi Rob,

Since you're going to have a 64 bit hardware system available (for a reason I guess), I would suggest to deploy a new image of Windows OS to start leveraging "64 bit" benefits. In this case you will just need to restore user data (files and folders) and reload all the applications and OS for better performance.

Thanks!

Rob,

On top of Vitaliy's answer, if you want to continue to use a 32-bit system, then you can do a bare metal restore and continue to work with the 32-bit. But I would take the advice of Vitaliy and move to a 64-bit :-)

No, this is not possible due to different hardware architecture.
