Restore operation fails with access denied

Post by Replicator »

I'm trying to restore single folder from backup but I'm getting access denied error.

Image

OS is Windows 10 x64 1607 (standard user rights, Applocker)

Backups are stored in Windows Server 2016 network share. Backups are running without errors.

Also suddenly when browsing folders inside this backup it displays error message:

Veeam Backup & Replication
An error occurred. Please contact Veeam Support.
Details:

Code: Select all

Access is denied at Veeam.Backup.Common.LongPathCommon.Exists(String path, Boolean& isDirectory)
   at Veeam.Backup.Common.LongPathDirectory.Exists(String path)
   at Veeam.Backup.UI.FilesysExplorer.EnterToDirectory()
   at Veeam.Backup.UI.FilesysExplorer.directoryView_DoubleClick(Object sender, EventArgs e)

   at Veeam.Backup.Common.UI.Controls.ListViewEx.WndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)
Any ideas?

Hi Replicator,

Unfortunately, can’t say anything regarding this error. Please open a support case and let the support team check you VEB’s logs. Don’t forget to include the case ID to this thread for tracking purposes. Thank you.

Have you verified that the service account that's running your Veeam restore has administrative rights to the restore destination? Can you successfully restore other folders?

Hi Mike,

Indeed, admin account is required to start a file level recovery. Thanks.

Hello!

Yes I have full Local Adminstrator rights on the computer. But I have to elevate that because of UAC on the Windows client.
Cant disable UAC but it should still work. But it seems to be an access issue, I agree on that.
I also changed the "ownner" of the folder where the backup is stored to the account I am logged in as. That is my personal domain account.

Is there any logfile where I can read more, if that gives a hint what the issue is?

Another thought, can it be bacuse the backup was done without Administrator rights? I think the client is running without Administrator rights when the backup is created.

Henrik,

Have you already opened a support case? I think this is the best way of solving this at this point in time. I doubt that the backup was created with an account without Administrator rights because I think the backup then will fail.

Log the support case ID here and what is causing this after investigation also. That would be very much appreciated
Mike
