Is it possible to restore directly from a VBK file?
The reason I'm asking is because I had two computers that after a while they started giving the following errors:
Code: Select all
19-May-16 10:36:21 :: Full backup file merge failed Error: File does not exist. File: [\\mysafe03\backup\VNG-Desktop\Backup Job VNG-DESKTOP\Backup Job VNG-DESKTOP2016-04-30T123014.vbk]. Failed to restore file from local backup. VFS link: [summary.xml]. Target file: [MemFs://frontend::CDataTransferCommandSet::RestoreText_{bd8cbbf5-13cb-41d1-bcb8-18880546870d}]. CHMOD mask: [0]. Agent failed to process method {DataTransfer.RestoreText}.
Indeed the file does not exist but I still don't know why. Something happens during a merge operation and maybe the database is not updated.

Hi VladV,
What was the backup destination? Can you check if the backup is operational via file level recovery?

The backup destination was a qNAP nas. I can't restore because I deleted the vbm and the incrementals to start a new backup.

Dima,
Any update on this?
Cryptowall encrypted my VBM file but not the VBK.

Jeff,
Unfortunately, behavior remains the same. Could you share what happened with this Cryptowall? I wonder how your backups were stored (what was the backup location and how the permissions were set)? Thanks in advance.

Backups were on local disk, on a different LUN. VMB file was encrypted with admin rights.
Does the VBK Extract Utility work with EB VBKs??

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, Extract Utility won’t help as it does not support VEB backups.
