Retore of some files failed
When we try to restore some files from a backup created in Endpoint backup we get the following error:
Failed to transfer <file>. The file or directory is corrupt and unreadable.
Is there something we can do to get the files back?

Re: Retore of some files failed
I would suggest opening a support case and let them investigate the reason for this issue. Thanks!

Re: Retore of some files failed
I will do.
I think it has something to do with data-deduplication. I'm only able to restore files smaller than 32 kb.
We've installed the deduplication feature on our Veeam server.

Yes, to restore data from the deduplicated volume you must have an identical deduplication driver installed in the OS, where restore operation is initiated from.

And what if our fileserver is Windows 2012 and our backup server Windows 2012 R2? That should work?

Re: Retore of some files failed
I think the later version of Windows Server (in your case it is 2012R2) might be able to "see" the deduplicated data from Windows Server 2012 volume, but not the other way around.
In order to avoid issues during FLR process, we recommend to have the same version of Windows Server used. See this similar topic for Veeam B&R FLR process > Backing up 2012 R2 from Veeam 2012 Server.

Windows server deduplication driver should be identical for source and target. Frankly speaking, if you backup a deduplicated volume from Windows 2012, restore should be performed at Windows 2012. It applies both to File level recovery and volume level recovery. Bare Metal Recovery is not affected while with deduplicated volume you restore the original operating system.

Re: Retore of some files failed
I tried to restore files on the fileserver itself (via the Endpoint restore tool) but it doesn't work, only restoring files smaller then 32kb is working.
I also tried to restore the files on another Windows 2012 server (I installed Endpoint Backup), but there the same error.
Is there a solution for this?

Please open a support case to review the restore job log.

Re: Retore of some files failed
I was able to reproduce the error on a new installed vm with Windows 2012 and deduplication enabled: if you create a new backup (in Veeam Endpoint backup) and choose 'File level backup (slower)' as backup mode I'm not able to restore files changed by deduplication. If a choose 'Volume level backup' as backup mode the restore is working.
