SQL AG - backup 1 node only
Hi, Is it possible to backup a single node of a SQL AG only? As if it is a standalone SQL server? To avoid load on all nodes? For example without truncating log files, if that would cause an issue? Thanks!

Re: SQL AG - backup 1 node only
Hello,
I'm not sure how much sense it makes, but yes you can. If you don't truncate logfiles, then you will run out of disk space and your cluster will go down.
Do you see "too high" load, or are asking just because you are interested? Did you install the CBT driver?
https://www.veeam.com/kb2463 describes the way to go.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: SQL AG - backup 1 node only
Hi Hannes, thanks. There is some hesitation here about the load of backup on all nodes. In case we backup 1 node only I think we cannot let Veeam do the log truncating, because other nodes will not be notified. And if log truncating is done outside of Veeam, Veeam probably can make only Full backups. I agree probably this is all not a good idea at all, but I wanted to have as much information as possible.
