Switching between Server and Free Editions

I switched from Server to Free and backup chain created a new incremental backup but did not merge it with the Full Backup. Is this normal operation? I switched from Workstation to Free and Full Backup was merged.

They both performed a full backup file merge today. I don't know what was going on yesterday.

Any chance periodic full backup or encryption settings were changed?

Not to my knowledge. I did have to edit schedule

Thanks. Neither edition modification nor schedule modification should not affect your backup chain. Please open a case and let support team check your VAW logs. Do not forget to share the caser ID in this thread.
