Typical initial backup speed (Veeam Repository in use)
What are people seeing for their initial backup speed to a respository, or anything i suppose. Our Veeam environment is running fine, i have just added a a few desktops/laptops in. I have one that seems to only run the initial backup at around 100Mbps at best. Its a loaded up alieanware, SSD, 1Gb Ethernet, nothing going on the veeam server at the time or the laptop. I would expect to see near at least half the gigabit connection? Throttling is off.

Hello adrianh,
What type of backup repository are you using for endpoint backups? Thanks.

Veeam Endpoint Backup is installed in the same site, right? Any VBR throttling rules enabled?

All in the same site, no throttling.

Thanks! The last thing I'd check is Load control option of the repository. Check that "Limit combined data rate to" is not somehow influencing your overall backup performance. Thanks

From configuration standpoint all looks good for me then. I assume we can run a test to check the existing performance – try to copy paste the file from the endpoint’s machine to the repository. What is the average throughput? Also can you set up a regular CIFS at the same repository machine and retarget the VEB to this shared folder? Can you see the difference? Thanks!

Problem found.... Laptop ran Dell update tool a few weeks prior. NIC driver was bad, went to vendor directly and all performance is back up.

Thanks for letting us know! And very happy to hear that it is solved! Does that mean that bad driver is removed from the Dell catalog and a newer version is available or did you used an older version again?

We didn't check with Dell and just downloaded the latest package from Killer Networking after realizing the driver that was installed recently had a date of 3 years ago.

Wow. Just curious what OS was installed on this machine and did you enable the auto updates? I always thought consumer windows OS are updating drivers automatically…

From what I remember, this option was not enabled by default. I used to always enable it after reinstalling OS.Dima P. wrote:I always thought consumer windows OS are updating drivers automatically…

Windows 10 seems to have the drivers auto update enabled by default, though that does not mean you get the latest possible version
