Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
I am setting Endpoint Backup up on a test machine for the first time. We have an established Veeam B&R infrastructure running v8 Patch 2. When trying to create the job, even when specifying to only keep 7 days worth or restore points, I get the message:
"Current schedule may result incremental backups chain that is longer than 60 restore points, which is not supported with DataDomain repository. Consider scheduling full backups more frequently."
Obviously it is not my intention to keep so many based on my selection for 7 days with it running 1x per day. Can someone perhaps shed some light on what the issue could be?

Hmm, could be just a UI bug. Should be safe to ignore in your case. Are you seeing this error in Veeam Endpoint Backup? Can you please post a screenshot of your VEB scheduling settings? Thanks!

Yes, seeing this in VEB. Can't complete the creation of the backup when this pops up, won't let the create process succeed.

What if you change the last option to 1 day as well? Does it allow you to finish the job wizard?

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
Steve,
I agree with Vitaliy suggestion to set the backup no more often than X to days, not hours. It might be the calculation glitch indeed – I’ll check it with the dev team.
P.S. While I am poking the DEVs could you please open a support case thru Endpoint Control Panel > support? We may need to take a look at the application logs. Thanks

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
Looks like 4 days is the largest value acceptable to the wizard. I'll open a case tomorrow when I get back into the office, thanks!
EDIT: Backup fails to connect to remote backup service. I'll get the case open tomorrow so we can figure out what the deal is. Happy to help get this working properly - still have physical servers to backup and would LOVE to be under a single Veeam umbrella.

Once you do this, please post your case ID, so we could take a look at the case with the dev team. Thanks!

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
I have opened a case via the VEB console. Strangely, when adding in the user email that is also associated with our paid products I was prompted to add it to the system again. Having this linked to our normal support case portal would be much better.

Steve,
Thanks for the heads up! If you have your regular account linked to the said email address then it should be indeed recognized – I’ll check it.

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
I used the same email address (email is for the client, not mine) as the one they have their licensing under and it is not showing any open cases, nor have we received any follow up other than the case creation confirmation. PM me if you need more specific information, thanks!Dima P. wrote:Steve,

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
Hi guys, we have received no response on this whatsoever from Veeam as of yet, and the case is still not linked to the customer support portal - can anyone assist?

Hello Steve,
While we are still checking the email validation problem, could you please update this thread with the original issue investigation results?

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
Yes. The support team recommended a workaround for the restore points, but when configuring the backup to point to our B&R server we almost always get:
"Failed to connect to remote backup service"
A couple of times I was able to proceed past this, but backups always fail.

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
Steve,
Thank you! What happens if you configure the same repository as a shared folder destination for Endpoint backup job?

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
This is a DDBoost repository on a DataDomain 2500. For now I am able to create a CIFS share on that DD and get backups to work, but I have no visibility in the Veeam B&R console which I need to achieve to meet the client's needs.

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
I was not going to propose you to use such workaround – just wanted to check if it’s the connectivity issue or not. Since it’s not the connectivity, let’s wait for support team then. Thanks!

Re: Unable to Create Job Targeting DataDomain Repository
As a futher followup, I added the DataDomain CIFS share as a repo to B&R and am not able to at least see the backups in my main console to use the recovery tools against them if needed. Definitely looking forward to getting the true integration up and running though - let me know if you guys need anything else.
