I also tried extracting the files from VeeamAgentWindows_3.0.0.748.exe and installing the files manually - prerequisites install without problems, but running Veeam_B&R_Endpoint_x64.msi shows the following error:

Code: Select all

---------------------------
Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows

Setup is unable to proceed. Please install the following prerequisites:

Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012 (11.4.7001.0 or later)
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (11.4.7001.0 or later)
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB (11.4.7001.0 or later)

---------------------------
V redu
---------------------------
This is despite these prerequisites being already installed. Veeam Agent 2.2.0 can be uninstalled and reinstalled without any problems (I tried uninstalling 2.2.0 and then installing 3.0.0, which didn't help, so I installed 2.2.0 again).

I'm on Windows 10 1809 (17763.253) x64.
Case #03382865.

I am having this same issue, so I am interested to hear of your resolution. I have not had the time to open my own support ticket yet, but my symptoms are identical (OS build and all).

Thanks!

In my case the problems seem to be with SQL components - their install is somehow corrupted, and so far removing all traces of SQL 2012 (uninstall through Programs and Features when possible, with FixIt where uninstall failed, and then removing assemblies from GAC with gacutil), and then reinstalling the components hasn't helped yet (Veeam Agent always detects that older version of SQL components is installed and then refuses to continue).

I fixed the problem. Veeam Agent support leaves a lot to be desired. They didn't even ask how I fixed the problem. They kept asking me for B&R logs. Please add this solution to your database. Three of my nine clients failed to upgrade. This fixed all three.

Uninstall the following programs in the order below. No restart required. You will not loose your existing database. Then install VAW 3.0.

Veeam Agent For Microsoft Windows

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (x64)

Microsoft System CLR Types for SQL Server 2012 (x64)

Technogod,

Thank you for the update. We will review your case details with RnD team (I bet the main idea from support perspective was to identify the pattern for this behavior to report it to our QA, thus they requested debug logs). Cheers!

I had the same issue and have to say that support was most unhelpful, and as someone noted above, when I let them know I had solved the problem, no one from support bothered to ask how I solved it. The Veeam installer leaves much to be desired, it kept insisting on installing the new version of sql even though their logs (and control panel) both indicated the pre-reqs were already installed.

Another thing, I wonder why they are even using something as heavy as SQL Express for this application.

I'm not sure what the case number is, however, I have copied the reference number that was in all of the email subjects.

The upgrade failed here, too.

I think this happens frequently with major upgrades (1.x -> 2.x, 2.x -> 3.x) and usually is caused by missing installation files which at some point were deleted from the Temp directory.

As you can't download older versions from Veeam's site, i suggest keeping the installers which are expandable with at least WinRAR.

Thorsten,

Veeam Agent for Windows setup is independent self-extracting file with all the required components included, so that should not be the root case. Do you have a case ID to share? Thanks!

Dima, you are incorrect. What toko42 says is correct and is what I had to do.
When the sql server install files are not retained and later on you update Veeam and as part of it's install process tries to uninstall or update sql server, the installation fails because Windows cannot find the sql installer that corresponds to the currently installed version.
To solve my problem, I had to find the installer for the previous version of Veeam (which I had saved) and manually extract the sql server components and run them to do an uninstall of the old version of sql server.

I provided a reference above which you should be able to track down and review the case notes which documents all of this.

No, as I mentioned in my original response, all I have is what transpired via email and I saw nothing that looked like a case number in that.
Perhaps they could search by my name or email address?

I was talking about missing files from the previous installation which at least in my case frequently hinder me from upgrading or uninstalling.

The only help is to get the original installation file (obviously not from your site as you offer only the latest version), extract it and point the (un)installer to the required file.

I didn't open any case this time as I already had this problem before.

I had to do exactly what toko42 described to get my upgrade to work as well.

Hello,
i have the same problem. Veeam Agent for windows can't not be installed. Installer claims the sql server management objects are missing. But these are installed with the correct version.
The installation log with the error:
Action ended 08:05:08: VeeamEndpointValidateInstalledVersionAction. Return value 1.
Setup is unable to proceed. Please install the following prerequisites:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (11.4.7001.0 or later)

MSI (s) (38!E0) [08:05:08:795]: Product: Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows -- Setup is unable to proceed. Please install the following prerequisites:

Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Management Objects (11.4.7001.0 or later)

CustomAction VmaConditionsChecker returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
Action ended 08:05:08: VmaConditionsChecker. Return value 3.

It would seem like with all the issue around installing and the complaints about memory usage due to the SqlLocal, they would find a replacement to use in it's place. I find it hard to believe they need a full blown sql engine for a local endpoint backup product.

Same issue here on Win10 - 1903, Case # 03809910

Manage to solve it myself.

Removed VAW 2.2 and the 3 SQL components as described. Downloaded 3.0.2 from website, ran the installer as Administrator.
Installation complete, job settings etc. retained even though SqlDB was uninstalled.
