Upgrading centrally managed agent
Hi,
we are using Veeam B&R and agent to back up SQL cluster nested on ESXi. We have upgraded B&R server to v 10. Agent (v 3) is centrally managed from backup server - it is shown in add/remove programs but not in the system tray. What would be the procedure for upgrading agent to v4 - just download it and manually upgrade it on cluster nodes or can the upgrade be pushed from the management server?
Thank you and regards

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
Hello bplancic,
If the agent is managed via Veeam B&R (backup job is controlled by Veeam B&R server) you can go to Inventory node, find the host in the protection group, right click in and select upgrade agent. Keep in mind that reboot may be required due to the .Net framework update. Cheers!

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
Having agents managed by VBR is one of my favorite features. As Dima mentioned you just right click on a agent and choose update. Simple as that!
No driving around, no scheduling for an upgrade - a plus in my book.

Additionally, with the v10 upgrade, the agent upgrade becomes mandatory. We had several agents running older versions of VAW with 9.5U4 that were updated with v10. Can be a headache to schedule reboots, since many required the .NET updates as mentioned above.
Just something to watch out for.

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
Upgrade is not mandatory, if you have agents on version 3.0.
- Agent version 2.0 needs to be upgraded.
- Agent version 3.0 and above will work with Veeam v10

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
I'd say it's mandatory if you want to use new agent features. Aside from that you can continue to use older agent version with Veeam B&R v10 and upgrade agents at the desired time slot.

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
Interesting! When I did the upgrade all of my agents said "Upgrade Required" in the B&R console.

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
On my Backup Reports, they are saying the same thing.
Veeam Agent 3.0 and above is supported with Veeam v10
It's like a friendly reminder from veeam to update all your agents. But it's not necessary
From the Upgrade Guide
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100
6. Are you using Veeam Agents version 2 and earlier operating in the standalone mode together with Veeam Backup & Replication? If yes, after you upgrade Veeam Backup & Replication to version 10, you must upgrade Veeam Agent on protected computers at least to version 3.0.

Re: Upgrading centrally managed agent
Mildur is right. Veeam B&R simply reports if agent version is not latest (not the one that was bundled with the current version of Veeam B&R). As I've said before immediate upgrade is not required for Veeam Agent v3, but we still want you to run the latest version due to new features, under-the-hood improvements and multiple bugs fixed

Good to know, and thanks for correcting me. Don't want to spread misinformation.
