Hi,
anybody know how to restore a backed up vm/physical in Azure starting from the veeam recovery media iso generated by veeam agent for windows?
I have all the vbm and vbk also in an azure fileshare ready.

Re: using recovery media iso in Azure for restore
Hello,
and welcome to the forum.
Azure and many other clouds do not offer direct console access. That means bare metal recovery (with the ISO) cannot be used. The way to restore to Azure (and AWS) is to the "full product" Veeam Backup & Replication with the "Restore to Azure / AWS" functionality: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100
I have heard that Alibaba cloud allows direct console access. This might also be an alternative.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hi and thanks for that info. Do you think that B&R would be able to process the windows agent generated vbm and vbk files?

Re: using recovery media iso in Azure for restore
Hello,
that's what it is built for
But if you only want to migrate one machine, then I think it's easier to manually create a new VM in Azure and only migrate the data. It's probably not the best idea to install B&R on the machine you want to migrate. Or maybe Azure has some other native migration tools.
Best regards,
Hannes

Re: using recovery media iso in Azure for restore
Hi Hannes,
I created a clean windows 2016 server vm in Azure and installed B&R full version.
A try to add external repository but it gets stuck on the folder selection within the azure container (nothing appears and OK button is thus grayed out).
I think something is odd. Any ideas?
In that folder are all the vmb and vbk files generated by the veeam agent for windows.....
Even tried to move these directly into a container without folders.... but wizard still expects a folder.
Let me know your views if you have time.
Thanks

Hi,
external repository is for other products (Veeam Backup for AWS and Azure). Those people did not realize that they don't use these products
For your use case, only the section of the link above is relevant.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=100 shows the wizard.
Best regards,
Hannes
