VAW coexistence with TSM agent

Post by JLundgren »

Hello,

in order to replace IBM TSM with VAW as a remote backup alternative, the VAW need to be able to coexist with the TSM agent on the same server for testing purposes.
Now, as I understand it, this could be a potential problem since TSM agent is using archive bits settings on files when job is run.

We are worried that even if a VAW test-job is scheduled at a different time, the TSM agent production-job might be confused if VAW is using same technology.

In other words, could we put customers´ existing backup-function at risk, by installing and running VAW on the same server that also hosts TSM agent ?

Hello,
we did not test compatibility with the TSM agent, but if the real question is about the archive bit: we don't use archive bit :-)

As a side node: we do not recommend file level backups for performance reasons.

Hannes

Hello Hannes,

thanks for the prompt reply.
That´s what I was aiming at.

I have already recommended customer to use either entire computer or volume backup.
