VEB cannot connect to repository
We have our VBR placed on a dedicated network-adress backing up our virtual Environment.
And we have several klient-networks that we do not want to access the VBR-network directly. So we publish the VBR-server IP in our firewall and do a SAT / NAT rule and add a hostname that Points to the published IP in our firewall.
Now, the VEB can connect to the VBR but cannot do the backups, the error indicates that the VEB and VBR tries to connect to each other using the VBR IP-adress, and hence we do not allow Connections directly to that server it fails.
Is there any way we can make the VBR communicate to the VEB to use the published IP-adress in our firewall SAT/NAT rule?

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Hello Fredrik,
VEB cannot connect to VBR behind NAT – that is a known limitation. That being said, we are working on a possible solution for this case.

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Hi, I have my veeam servers sitting behind a NAT gateway as well. Any news on the solution?

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Hello Timmy,
Unfortunately, there is no workaround for such case. VEB requires a direct connection to the repository without NAT.

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Come on Veeam - sort it out. You define where the repository is relative to the source data within VEB - why do you then change that to the internal IP of the B&R server.
It's WAN accelerators all over again !

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
I wonder why you have NAT between VEB and VBR. Is VEB client is located offsite? Thanks.

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Yes - it's offsite. Surely this is not unreasonable for a backup repository?
I have a few remote physical machines I wish to include in my overall backup strategy.
It's annoying as it all works until Veeam decides to ignore the destination address you have specified and introduce its own!
Thanks
Chris

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Chris,
Thinking of a possible workaround - you could set a secondary site repository and use it a backup destination for VEB jobs. From VBR side you can set up a backup copy job to the main site.

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
I do have a secondary site. It has a Veeam proxy and I use it for backup copies. It is.... wait for it.... behind a firewall of course, which means it's going to have the same NAT issue.
Are you saying that if I use a secondary site then VEB won't change the destination IP half way through the job - I suspect it still will.
Thanks for any suggestions though.....

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
Chris,
To clarify, are VEB and secondary repository connected to the same network?

No - VEB is in one location and all my repositories are remote and behind firewalls which NAT.

Thank you.Veeam Endpoint Backup cannot work with Veeam Backup & Replication that is located behind the NAT gateway.

Re: VEB cannot connect to repository
I have already established that it does not work and I appreciate that this is currently the way it is designed. Not sure what you're contributing here PTide.
I am questioning why it is designed this way as it seems to serve no purpose and trying to persuade Veeam that it does not need to be so.
