Veeam Agent and MS Exchange DAG

Post by Ice-Dog »

Hi all,

I am scheduled to deploy and configure a small setup of Exchange over on a new site in a couple months. At this site I will only have OS level access to my VMs, no vCenter access.

I wonder if the Veeam Agent can backup Exchange DAG and if it can what sort of application aware settings it has available.

Thank you very much,
Ice-Dog

Hi Ice-Dog,
although I am using VafW for backup of a physical DAG, I can confirm that until now, backup runs absolutely smoothly!
If you know Application Aware Image Processing from Backup & Replication: The options are the same.
If not, Exchange integration via VSS communication triggers Log truncation for distributed databases without any problems. Depending on your DAG configuration you need to back up only servers with unique DBs.
Recovery runs fine with Veeam Explorer for Exchange incl. granular item recovery.

Hello,
it seems to work (also in my lab) but it is not supported today. We are working on it ;-)

Best regards,
Hannes

Hi Hannes,
could you please specify what exactly is not supported by now? As I introduced VafW specifically for an Exchange DAG, I pre-checked whether this would be supported.
The answer was that this would be fine. Maybe there are specific Cluster Roles which are currently not supported, like Scale Out File Shares?

Microsoft clusters in general are not supported, although it might work with Exchange. Microsoft cluster support is planned, but not available today.
