Backup agent for Microsoft Windows servers and workstations (formerly Veeam Endpoint Backup FREE)

Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0

Veeam Logoby albertwt » Sun Aug 21, 2016 11:48 pm

Hi People,

With the latest edition of Veeam Agent for Windows 2.0, does it means that I can install it on my Physical server box and then backed up by Veeam just like the VM based backup ?

I assume that it is possible using Veeam Backup 9.5 edition next month.

You can already backup physical servers using Veeam Endpoint Backup today and store it in a Veeam Backup & Replication repository. As we continue to develop this it will only improve over time :-)

Ah I see,
So does the backup also perform deduplication and Forward / Reverse Invremental as well ?

I only use it at home  but my manager is not convinced yet for the Physical SQL servers in production.

Veeam Endpoint Backup uses there own backup chain method. If you send the backups to a Veeam repository you can add encryption to it as well.

If you are going to backup physical SQL servers do keep in mind that the current version doesn't integrate on application level so you would need to use the native tools to make a database dump.

Yes, I've registered for that already :-)

I can't wait for the greatest product to be released this year.

So does it mean when using new Veeam Agent for Windows, I can backup my physical servers with B&R and I can stop using VEB?

Yes that is what you can do with the server edition which has full application support etc.

What do you mean with server edition? Server edition of VEB? Server edition of B&R? Server edition of agent?

I do not understand yet, in what product the agent will be integrated...

The agent is a standalone product and will come in 3 editions. You will have the free edition (VEB), workstation and server edition. Have a look at the breakout video on https://go.veeam.com/launch-event-recorded.html

I do not want to watch the whole video. So does it mean, we cannot use VEB anymore but have to buy another product to make Veeam backup physical servers?

You can still use VEB but it won't have application aware processing compared to the server edition :-)

Not exactly, Veeam Agent for Windows FREE edition is the same VEB, but with incremented version.
UT2015 wrote:What do you mean with server edition? Server edition of VEB? Server edition of B&R? Server edition of agent?

It is for Veeam Agent for Windows. Veeam B&R is not going to be changed. Veeam Agent server version will have all application-aware image processing options that you currently have in Veeam B&R. For more info, do take a look at the breakout (it doesn't have much marketing in it).

Small correction - if you're already using VEB to backup Windows Servers (with simple configuration), then you will be able to continue doing it via Veeam Agent for Windows FREE edition. For more advanced functionality (see my response above), you will need to use a paid version. The same refers for having technical support (standard, premium), all paid versions will have it included.

Will the backup jobs then be managable in B&R or will they still only be managable on the server to backup?
