[Feature Request] Veeam Agent for Windows and HPe StoreOnce

Post by a.volpi@quadria.fr »

Hello,

I'd like to file a feature request regarding the impossibility for Veeam Agent for Windows to use a Catalyst repository through a Veeam B&R Server.

Thank you.

Hello Alexandre,

Indeed, VAW does support HPE StoreOnce only as a CIFS target. We plan to improve the integration in the next major versions. Thank you for your feedback!

Thank you for your reply.

I just want to make sure the feature request has been acknowledged.
I'll report back to the engineer helping me with my case.

Again, thank you very much.

Thomas,

We are in the final stages of releasing a new update. As Anton stated in his digest, RTM of VBR 9.5 is shipped to service providers, which means that it should be GA in a couple of weeks. The same for a new version of VAW (2.1). However, note that these will have really wanted functionality, but it is not a major release.

Thanks

Hi,

Update 3 for VEEAM B&R 9.5 delivered an awesome way of managing the agents. But: I still cannot use the StoreOnce Catalyst as Repository for VAW, even after Upgrade to 2.1? Am I doing something wrong or is this correct?

Greetings,
Thomas

You are not doing anything wrong. VAW 2.1 still does not support Catalyst repositories as targets. If you want to write such backups to a StoreOnce you must create a CIFS share on it, create that as a separate repository, and target the backup jobs to it.

Do we have a planned release for VAW that will support Catalyst datastores?

Thanks

+1 for added functionality! I spent a chunk of time today trying to figure out why VBR wouldn't list the StoreOnce repository, until I finally found this thread. Creating a CIFS repo is an ok workaround, but native functionality would be much better.

Hi Guys,

Some of you are stating in this thread (see quote) that backup to a StoreOnce CIFS share is supported with VAW, but in the product requirement https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=21, it is stated that backup to HPe StoreOnce Storage Appliance is not supported without specifying wether this is for Catalyst Only.
Can you please clarify if something has changed or if this is just an error / lack of detail in the system requirement article ?

Thanks for your insight.

Hello Gilles.

CIFS scenario should work - this is a User Guide issue. Thanks for sharing.

Another +1 for this request. We have a couple of customers running Veeam with StoreOnce and the lack of Catalyst support for Agent jobs is real drawback.

+1 for this request for windows and linux agents, prefer direct catalyst support to CIFS repository on storeonce.

+1 for this, alot of space wasted because not able to use dedup from agent on catalyst share, but using a seperate CIFS share.

Backing up failover clusters can only be done using VAW. It's a shame backup to Catalyst isn't supported. That single feature would greatly increase the usefulness of VAW.

Hi folks,

Thanks for pushing. I have some questions, so whenever you update this thread please help us to find answers. Cheers!

1. Are you using agents with Veeam B&R?
2. Would backup go to HPE StoreOnce which is set as Veeam B&R repository?

+1 from me too. Couldn't believe my eyes seeing that this is not yet a feature of veeam.

1. Yes, we are using agents.
2. No, we cannot yet backup directly to HPE StoreOnce repositories as this feature does not seem to exist. Would love to though.

1. Yes.
2. Yes. Either directly as a backup or with a copy job.

I know Veeam recommends to back up to regular storage and use a dedup appliance only for archiving/GFS (Timothy NEVER fails to mention this :-) )

Alas, most of our customers are SMB's which makes selling 2 storage solutions for backup rather expensive.

Just came back to this thread and noticed that the question up there got changed and thus my answers don't make sense anymore.

1. YES
2. YES

That's it.

Hello folks,

It's planned for the upcoming version (please keep in mind that integration will be provided when StoreOnce is added as Veeam B&R repository). Cheers!
