Veeam Agent for Windows 4.0 not compatible with Veeam 9.5 Update 4B server
Hi,
I am waiting a month or so before upgrading my Veeam infrastructure to Veeam 10.
I went to install Veeam agent for Windows on a PC today and downloaded the lastest (4.0) and did the install, ran the recovery media wizard, then went to add the repository, which is my Veeam server only to get the message that Veeam Agent for Windows wasn't compatible with my version of Veeam repository.
You might want to make a big red note about that on the Veeam Agent for Windows download.
It might have saved me half an hour and a little bit of frustration.

I don't need the big red note. The Limitations are clearly documented by veeam folks. Thank you Veeam

Can anyone confirm if it works in the other direction? If we upgrade our server to 10. Will the agents running 3.0.2 still function?

Yes, can confirm that existing agent will work with latest version of Veeam B&R. We specifically tested this scenario to cover the upgrade procedure. However, please keep in mind that new features of Veeam B&R v10 (NFS repository, StoreOnce support and others) are not supported by old agent version, so it's recommended to upgrade all your agents eventually. I think, it would be a nice idea, if veeam can create a compatibility Matrix (in table form) in which we can see the compatiblity between veeam products and it‘s version/build numbers
Especially for veeam agents, nutanix ahv and veeam one.
There is no guide or webpage at the moment, where we can see everything in one place.
The release notes are very clear. And the upgrade guides. But it would be nice to have all the compatiblity information in one single KB article.

[MERGED] VBR 9.5.4.2866 not compatible with VAW (4.01)
VBR 9.5.4.2866 not compatible with Veeam Agent for Windows (4.01.2169).
I have Veeam Agent for Windows 3.01.xxxx which I have been using file level (personal files) to a Veeam Backup Repository on a Veeam Backup & repository.
Then I upgraded the Veeam Agent for Windows to 4.01.2169 and suddenly it shows me this error message.
So am I forced to use VBR 10.x or is this a bug in VAW 4.01.2169 ??

Then at least instead of putting the error there...at least say that VAW4.0 needs VBR 10.x ??

The license should be downloaded and updated automatically upon installing the v10.x version.
From v10 GA release notes:
"v10 uses the new license file format. The setup wizard will offer to download your v10 license automatically. This requires uploading your currently installed license to Veeam servers. If your backup server has no Internet connection, or if you prefer not to have your license uploaded, or in case of license upgrade issues – please download your v10 license from the Veeam Customer Portal manually. Note that you must have an active maintenance agreement at the time when you access the portal."
