How can I backup a laptop that is not in the company's network?
I need a VPN but how should its configuration be?

You need to configure VPN to provide access to the internal network where your repository resides. There is nothing special from agent's requirements perspective, just backup repository should be visible from the machine you are backing up. Cheers!
